Affordable Housing
Ken has been a strong and consistent affordable housing advocate throughout his sixteen years on the Board of Aldermen. Ken has worked hard to maximize the available resources for the development of new units and to focus those resources on helping the neediest amongst us.
Towards these ends, Ken wrote the legislation to adopt the Community Preservation Act in Newton, which has generated millions of dollars for affordable housing (as well as for open space acquisition, historic preservation, and recreation). Ken has also worked to ease zoning restrictions on accessory apartments in large homes and to strengthen the City's inclusive zoning law, which requires developers to set aside at least fifteen percent of their units for affordable housing.
